It’s not just you that needs a passport to travel, but your pet too
If you’re planning on leaving the country with your pet, it’s important that they have a passport, just like you. However, it can take up to 6 weeks for pets to receive their passports – they sometimes need blood tests too – so make sure you leave enough time before you intend to embark on your adventures.
Before your pet receives their passport there are a number of things they will require. These include:

A microchip –A vaccination against Rabies virus – one injection from 12 weeks old offers protection for up to 3 years. If your pet has not been previously vaccinated against Rabies, they may require a blood test after the vaccine to ensure they are suitably protected.
A full health assessment – one of our vets will check your companion from nose to tail to ensure they’re healthy enough to travel. They will also make sure your pet is up-to-date with their parasite control and has no potential conditions they could pass on to other animals .
A health certificate – only certain countries require this; your vet will inform you if your pet needs one, and will then complete it for you.
Authorisation – your vet will authorise your pet as safe to travel if they are satisfied they meet all of the necessary requirements.
If you are ever considering taking your pet abroad please speak with a member of our team. Depending on which county you are visiting, your pet may need additional vaccinations, and extra precautions may be advisable.
