Below is a list of some of the services we offer for horses. If your horse requires any other treatments however, don’t hesitate to contact us by calling 01334 650888.
24-hour emergency care
Our vets are on call 24 hours to offer emergency care for colics, foalings and wounds. Should you require out of hours care for your horse, please contact us on our practice number 01334 650888 and you will be transferred to a vet.
Examinations
Our experienced team of veterinary surgeons are each able to examine, diagnose and treat numerous medical problems your horse may be experiencing. As with small animals, it is recommended that horses receive a professional examination once a year to ensure they don’t have any health conditions. This is done alongside the annual vaccine they require.
Vaccinations
We strongly advise all horses are vaccinated against Tetanus. Many livery yards also require horses to be vaccinated against Flu. If your horse is meeting with others at shows or events it will also require to be vaccinated against Flu. The timing of the injections are reasonably exact and depends on jockey club or FEI rules. It is therefore best to phone the practice on 01334 650888 to discuss this with a vet.
Dental procedures
Our equine vets are able to perform tooth rasping as well as extractions. If your horse dislikes dental treatment we are able to use a suitable gag, or sedation if necessary.
Vetting
At Eden Vets we offer 2 stage and 5 stage vetting to accurately determine your horse’s health. This can either be done prior to purchase to thoroughly check the health of your potential new horse, or for insurance purposes.
Artificial Insemination (AI)
If you intend to breed from your mare we are able to help you do so safely and successfully. We will conduct a thorough scan to identify what must be done to increase the mare’s chances of conceiving. In some cases, hormones and antibiotics may be necessary before insemination is arranged.
Ultrasound scanning
At Eden Vets we have in-house ultrasound equipment to help determine whether or not your mare is pregnant. This technology can also be used to examine soft tissue (tendons and ligaments) as well as other structures such as joints, and even the eyes.
Foaling checks
We offer foaling checks every spring and summer to check over your mare and take blood samples from foals. These samples are tested for antibody levels and the foal can be supplemented quickly if they’re inadequate.
Castration
If you do not intend to breed from a colt we’re able to safely castrate them. This procedure can be performed at your stable, and has a number of benefits including prevention of mating as well as unwanted behaviours.
Digital X-rays
In cases where treatment may be required quickly, our digital X-ray machine proves invaluable. Instead of having to wait for X-ray images to develop, our digital technology provides an image instantly, allowing us to make quick decisions about the best course of action for your horse.
