If your pet isn’t microchipped by 6th April 2016 you could be fined up to £500
If your pet were to go missing, would you trust that their collar would be enough to guarantee their safe return to you? While this is sometimes the case, unfortunately collars and tags can easily fall off, break or be removed intentionally. That’s why microchips are so important.
A microchip is roughly the same size as a grain of rice. It is inserted quickly and almost painlessly between your pet’s shoulder blades, where it will be held in place by the body tissue. Once the chip is embedded, it can be scanned by anyone with a specialist scanner to reveal a unique code.
Your pet’s unique microchip code will be inserted into a national computerised database with all of your contact details. That effectively means your pet is carrying your telephone number and address around with them, wherever they go.
Specialist microchip scanners are held by all veterinary practices, dog wardens and animal organisations such as the SSPCA.
As of 6th April 2016, it will be a legal requirement for all dog owners throughout the UK to have their pet microchipped. Failure to do so could result in a £500 fine. So why wait? At Eden Vets our team of vets have chipped hundreds, if not thousands, of animals. All our vets try to minimise the stress that your pet experiences during a visit to us.
