bull on side in tipping crate

The foot trimming crush was bought by Eden Veterinary Practice in 2008.

The crate is towed behind the practice cars to move from farm to farm. All that is required on farm is a tractor with a double acting spool valve.

The cow or bull is walked into the crush, which is big enough to take a full grown stock bull. It is then haltered to the head support board and has the chest straps applied.

The tractor hydraulics are then used to cast the cow/bull on its side. It means there is no need for any sedation therefore reducing the cost to owner, and risk to animal.

The advantage of the tipping crate are the lack of sedation and the excellent access to the feet, it also increases the safety of personel involved since all four feet are safely tied.

This allows us to use our specially adapted grinder to make quick work of hoof reshaping, as well as the usual trimmers and knives.

We find the crate especially useful in the removal of inter digital growths, and of course allows easy application of slippers/blocks if necessary.
