The farm vets carry out emergency vet work such as calvings, lambings and bloats.

At the practice there is also the facility to bring sheep and young calves in to be examined. We have a separate building which houses a sheep operating table and calf pen. This is particularly good for dripping scouring calves and sheep caesars. This benefits the client by saving a call out fee.

Routine calls for sickness/illness are also carried out for conditions such as diarrhoea or pneumonia. This allows immediate treatment of an individual, plus herd or group advice, including effective batch treatment or vaccination protocols. Lambs at creep

The practice also carries out bull fertility testing - “a favourite topic” - the bull is half the herd and it is important that he is pulling his weight. Modern techniquies make for fast and easy results. This also checks for subfertility which can significantly reduce pregnancy rates in cows. Approximately 20% of bulls are subfertile and by 6 years old 50% are subfertile.

Dehorning

Pregnancy diagnosis is carried out either manually or by ultra sound for early detection ( 5 weeks) of pregnancy.

The practice carries out advisory services and herd health planning. The aim being to prevent problems and increase efficiency. For this reason the practice is also involved in Johnes and BVD control or eradication on several farms.

The practice undertakes routinue work such as castrations and dehorning. For foot trimming we have a specially adapted grinder and a tip over cattle crate large enough for full grown bulls to save on sedation.
